To mark America250, we are delighted to be supporting the work of the Franklin Commemorative Committee.
In recognition of the United States’ 250th anniversary celebrations, the aim of the committee is to highlight the key role played by Benjamin Franklin in establishing the special relationship between Britain and America that endures to this day.
In recognition of the 250th anniversary of American Independence, the Commemorative Committee proposes to recognise Benjamin Franklin's role in Anglo-American relations:
To raise £250,000 in the UK from supporters, businesses, and institutions to preserve Benjamin Franklin House – his only surviving residence in the world – for public benefit.
We intend to plant 250 mulberry trees in Epping Forest and Windsor Great Park, The trees will be offered to individuals buy or sponsor and in return a special 250 commemoration certificate and plaque authenticated by the City of London Corporation will be presented to each tree owner and recognised and named on a plaque in the Ben Franklin House in Craven Street.
To create a reciprocal educational course in topics related to Benjamin Franklin and his involvement in Anglo-American history by establishing an educational study foundation between King’s College, London, and the University of Pennsylvania, focused on the study of the Georgian papers.
