The Gardens at Wynyard Hall

Explore the stunning gardens of Wynyard Hall with a stop off at the very popular farm shop Café. The Gardens at Wynyard Hall are fast becoming one of the North’s leading visitor attractions. They have been accredited in Visit England’s Attraction Quality Scheme. Admission includes entry to the Walled Garden, Edible Garden, Wild Garden and Woodland Walk, plus the Farm Shop Café and Glasshouse.

The Walled Garden itself, dates back to 1822. It was originally created by William Sawrey Gilpin, who crafted gently curved flowerbeds, raised terrace walks, irregularly shaped shrubberies, and winding paths to form beautiful shapes within the landscape. It provided a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life, forming a beautiful visitor attraction until it closed shortly before the war. During your visit, look out for the Bell Tower. An iconic part of Wynyard Hall’s history, it was sounded by the Head Gardener to mark the start and end of the working day. Wander through to the Marquee Garden, and keep an eye for the Ratisbon gates, originating from a cathedral in Bavaria – The Gardens have a fascinating history, just waiting to be discovered.
